The My Book external drive series is one of Western Digital's most popular external drive series. They come in several different editions including the Home edition, Premium edition, Office edition, Studio edition, Essential edition, World edition and Mirror edition. Most of the drives use a firewire connection as this is very fast for data transfer. The Premium edition uses a firewire 400 connection and the Premium Ed edition has two firewire ports and an eSATA connection. The World edition is an external rive that was specifically designed to be used as a Network-attached storage system. The world edition can also connect to the internet using the Western digital anywhere access.
Western Digital also has very large drives such as the elements external drive. This drive can hold up to a terabyte of data. As with the majority of the western digital drives the Elements drive works through the plug and play function. You don't need to install any special software to run the external drive. Once you connect it the drive will automatically run as it contains all of the software it needs.
The largest of the western digital external drives can hold up to two terabytes of information. Most of the external drives from Western digital operate using a Plug and Play connection. This means that the drive has all of the software it needs to work and you do not need to install anything onto your computer. The drive also will not need an external power source as it gets power through the computer connection.
